THE PROCESS

This was a group project. I am only sharing my design contributions here.

Our journey began with research. We researched:

  • material availability, cost, and strength

  • the number of student projects would be at the exhibition (35)

  • the amount of space required (2.5m by 2.5m area per student)

  • emergency exits and safety

  • the guests (150 guests attending the event)

  • space for signage

  • the size of the room that the exhibition would be held

  • Humber College's colour scheme

  • ease of assembly and storage

  • budget

CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT & REFINEMENT

We developed concepts that were modular (for saving space), could easily be assembled and disassembled (for storage), used common materials (for cost-effectiveness), and universal (could accommodate any student's thesis design and cost-effective).

Concept development was done through black and white sketches, sketch models and 3D models (using Maya).

Promising concepts were further refined until we developed to our final design.
